Story

Since 2017, our mission has been to activate space to strengthen communities. We believe this work serves an essential role in providing equity, access and opportunity while instilling a sense of pride in the community.

We use art, design and planning to improve how people engage with and feel about their built environment through installations of epic art, designed spaces, and programs that engage people of all ages.

Align with us in our goals and help change the narrative on the post industrial gateway cities of Massachusetts while we position the state as a world class destination for public art!

More on our latest work..

Summer 2022: Mural Tour - Beyond Walls recently finished up a highly impactful 4 city mural tour. We were invited into Holyoke, Fall River, Lowell and our home town of Lynn to install over twenty five culturally responsible pieces of art that reflect the diverse communities in these cities.

Tour City Reels - In our activation cities, we locate and highlight small businesses to feature in our new social media "reel series." We help amplify their story and create free content for their marketing efforts. Our goal for this project is to support small businesses and increase economic activity in the area.

Trash bags to the Streets - Our recurring trash clean-up and mural tour program, Trash Bags to the Streets takes place in the heart of downtown Lynn. This initiative promotes civic pride and responsibility while cleaning up the streets of Lynn.

Designed Response Work

Designed Response uses a creative lens to address the wants and needs of a community by providing opportunity to collaborate with in-kind partners that want to make a difference.

Cook Street Park - In collaboration with Carmax Cares, Kaboom and the City of Lynn, Beyond Walls helped facilitate the development of a children's playground in an underserved area of Lynn.

BeND - a playful, inhabitable public sculpture. Created as part of a 5 week Architecture & Construction Summer Studio program, this installation is the work of 22 high school students whose names you see stenciled on the piece. BeND and the Summer Studio program were developed by local non-profits Beyond Walls and Digital Ready with the support of architecture firm, Payette. You can find BeND at its new Home at Joe Moakley park in South Boston.

Classroom to the Streets - Classroom to the Streets is a program that leverages the power of public art to deeply engage youth in learning. This program uses public art as a platform for youth to explore issues of interpersonal, social, academic, and historical understanding, inspiring pride in community, deepening engagement, fostering inclusion, and broadening exposure to the arts.

We need your support to continue this type of work and expand on our Beyond Walls programming for 2023. Your generous support helps us continue our work to activate space to strengthen communities.
